Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use a Philips HeartStart HS1 AED:

  1. Turn on the device by pressing the On/Off button. The AED will automatically perform a self-test and then prompt you to place the pads on the person's chest.
  2. Peel the pads from their packaging and attach them to the person's bare chest, one above the left collarbone and the other below the right nipple.
  3. Connected pads will automatically analyze the person's heart rhythm.
  4. Follow the voice prompts and visual instructions given by the AED.
  5. Press the shock button if prompted to do so by the AED. This will deliver an electric shock to the person's heart in an attempt to restore a normal rhythm.
  6. Continue to follow the AED's instructions until medical professionals arrive and take over or the person starts to show signs of recovery.
  7. Turn off the AED and remove the pads from the person's chest once the rescue is complete.

It is important to note that an AED will only provide instructions and deliver a shock if it determines that a shock is necessary. Also, you should always try to have at least one person trained in CPR on the scene when using an AED, as performing CPR can also improve the chances of survival for someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

Please be reminded that the above is just a general guide and specific instructions may vary based on the particular model and the circumstances. Always refer to the user manual of the AED you have, and it's always recommended to have proper training in using an AED device before performing any rescue.
