FAQS
What type of lanyard do I use to reduce the fall distance when I have a short distance to the ground?
A self retracting lifeline should be used to reduce the fall arresting distance. However, consideration should be given to the anchor point as this will also have an impact on the amount of clearance required. In low clearance situations a rigid anchor or rail system should be used with a self retracting lifeline. All objects should be cleared of the fall path below. If the option for guardrail is or restraint is available, consider these options prior to a fall arresting solution.
What is the fall protection clearance requirement for a horizontal lifeline?
The answer is varying depending on the horizontal lifeline system and the lanyard attached to it. All temporary and permanent lifelines are engineered with different deflections based on their total length, number intermediaries and anchors. Many systems have shock absorbing technologies built into the lifeline systems to reduce forces on the anchors. Because of all of these factors, you should read the manual for the system you have purchased for minimum clearances or refer to engineered drawing for a permanent system. number intermediaries and anchors. My company loads trucks outside and we have no anchor to tie off to above, how do I keep my employees safe?
This is probably one of the most common safety issues we see in the field. Whether you're loading pipe on a trailer, filling a rail car or a tanker truck. There is never a good way to get on top of the vessel with fall protection...well there are actually several options. Depending on the company's requirements there are options for mobilized anchors which can move around a yard when access is needed in many locations or permanently mounted rigid rail systems that cantilever over the rail car or truck. There are even access platforms with guardrail systems built in! If this sounds like your fall protection concern, give us a call, we can work with you to find a solution that best suits your needs.
